Highest and Best Use of Your Time As business owners we must prioritize and evaluate where our efforts and time are best spent. If we are so busy working “in” our business instead of “on” our business we will never experience the level of growth we strive to achieve. We need to be working smarter not harder. It’s all about “highest and best use” of our time. We are so fortunate that we live in this wonderful age with tremendous potential to reach the masses via the internet with automation and technology.

The Good Old Days (or were they?) We’ve come a long way since it took a whole day to get the horse and buggy into town to get supplies. Life was much simpler back in the day but much harder as well. I can relate slightly to the simple life that existed back then as I lived in rural Vermont for 19 years. You could not see a house from our house and it was a 45 minute drive to get to the nearest grocery store! We had an enormous garden (which I still miss to this day). Fresh vegetables are the best. We made maple syrup, raised pork and milk-fed veal. I can grow it, jam it, freeze it, can it, make butter in a jar, milk the cows and make maple syrup! It was a much simpler life but certainly much more physical work in many ways. Well, I’ve sure come a long way baby. Here I am specializing in online marketing with social media and video marketing! And to think, when I lived in Vermont not that long ago, there was no such thing as cell phones or internet for that matter. In fact we only had 2 channels on the television. We had to have a separate for each channel. It was not a bad way to raise our children but it was isolation at it’s best. Ok, let’s get back to the highest and best use of your time as a business owner. You will be amazed at how business blossoms when you start outsourcing or delegating some of the tasks that are holding you back when you try to do too many of them yourself. Let’s face it none of us can be experts at everything that is required to run a business of any size.

Modern Technology and Times This is an incredible age with technology and the internet available to so many. Every business, particularly a small business, needs to be creative and innovative and use as many of the tools available as possible to thrive in today’s environment. Every business needs to have a significant presence online and in social media channels to survive today. The way business is conducted is changing and we must change with it. It’s not just online social media, video and clever marketing any more. Now it is all heading toward mobile! Is your business ready to go mobile? Do you know how to take your business to new levels without doing everything yourself? It’s like that org chart with many positions but they all say “you.” Take advantage of the tools available and automate as much as possible in your business. It’s time to get creative and make sure that you are monetizing your website(s). Every business should have a website and every business should be capturing leads and communicating with them on an ongoing basis. Every business should also be looking at taking their site mobile and also have related valuable products that can be set up and delivered electronically to add an automated additional stream of income to their business. The next level is for each business to have some kind of continuity program built into their automated delivery system from their sites in order to add a residual passive stream of automated income to their business. It’s time to get social and take advantage of all the resources available to not only grow your business but really make it thrive no matter what is happening with the economy. The viral nature of social media and mobile marketing can and will take your business or organization to incredible new levels!
